Falafel Recipe

Kosher food is not complete without the famous falafel. So, we came up with a basic recipe that we think would be helpful the next time you want some of these deliciousness!

What you’ll need:

2 cups of dry chickpeas

1 ¾ kosher salt

⅓ chopped parsley

4 cloves of garlic

1 ½ tsp coriander

1 onion (cubed)

¼ cayenne pepper

1 ⅓ tbsp flour

Vegetable oil (for frying)

Let the chickpeas soak overnight, and they will double in size. Rinse the chickpeas after they’ve expanded. Use a food processor and pour all of the ingredients. Process them all together until they are coarse. Make sure that you don’t over blend it to the point that it looks like hummus. You want the consistency of a couscous.

When you have the right consistency, place your mixture in a bowl. Refrigerate this for about an hour so that it would easy hold together for the next process.

Fill your skillet with oil of about 1 ½ inches at medium heat. Shape your falafels in a round shape. Make them as small or large as you’d like! Place the falafel in the pan and let it cook for about 3 minutes until they are golden brown. Scoop them out leaving as much oil as possible and place them on a paper towel where they will continue to leave oily residues. Enjoy!
